Again, I get the tone they were going for, about the endless cycle that life and gaming is but there's better ways to communicate that message. There's 4 "cores" (abilities) and maybe 10 "hacks" (boosts) which sounds interesting on paper but again, you play the exact same 15 maps over 1000 times, using the same 4 guns, cores, 15 hacks, avoiding the same 3 bosses, fighting the same red glass guys over and over and over. They deliver a lot of these some points while also making a game that compels you to play for days on end.Īll together there's about 15 sandbox maps, 4 guns and 3 boss types all repeated ad nauseum for hours. There are better ways to communicate those messages with making your game feel like a chore just look at some of the Neir games. In this case, it seems the developers were just trying to be "self-aware" of the tedious and repetitive nature of the gameplay loop they created but unfortunately that doesn't really excuse the fact that this game becomes tiresome. Breaking the forth wall and talking directly to the gamer is always an interesting setup for a game and it's direction. They open the game by clearly telling you "are you sure you want to continue? It's just more and more of the same. The intro to the game makes it seem like the story/lore behind it will be expansive and deep but it all just falls flat. Everything is white and enemies are red "glass" and that's basically it but somehow they still manage to make the game look wonderful. It looks incredible, even though it's very simplistic and empty. It's unique, inventive and original, the time bending mechanic was intriguing and a lot of fun at first. So, I enjoyed this game but only for 3-4 hours, after that I was quite bored Please use flair to display what games you’re currently playing, not a punch line, username, tag, URL, or signature.
